Grocery Guru
I went to hear the Grocery Guru speak tonight. It was an inspiring presentation on how to save 70-100% on your grocery bill using store adds and coupons. The program seemed easy enough for even the laziest of us. He uses adds and stores from Utah but you could use his method no matter what state you lived in.
I'm going to give it a try and see if it works for me. My biggest concern is whether I will find coupons for items we actually use. We don't eat things like Pasta Roni and Captain Crunch. If you look at his meal plan for the week it's a lot of cold cereal and frozen or boxed foods.
Check out his website let me know what you think of it. I'll be making my meal plan and shopping tomorrow.

It sounds good but this program didn't work for us. We don't eat these kinds of processed, prepared foods.
Couponing can save you lots of money and you don't have to just eat junk food. Try www.pinchingyourpennies.com. I believe the ladies who started this are local to your area. You can also find the best prices on perishables and other fun money saving ideas.
I have gone through the effort of collecting coupons, organizing them, going through the box to dispose of the expired ones. . . As a Piling-style organizer, This just didn't work out well for me.
There were always coupons waiting to be cut, some waiting to be filed, some that had gotten pulled out by some child the second I blinked my eyes, and so on.
Also, forget being able to do your grocery shopping with kids, there is no way your coupons will kiddo's in the cart!
When it cames down to it, the foods most often available are not healthy, laden with preservatives, fats, chemicals, artificial flavors and so on.
I have found it cheaper for our family to eat/cook more from scratch.
That said, I do check on pinching your pennies each week. I often decide which grocery store has the best deals on what I need that week and go with them.
Actually you CAN coupon with kids AND have healthy and good for you foods, not just the horrible awful foods that the "grocery guru" tells you to buy on his list. Pinchingyourpennies.com has all the sales for all sorts of different stores all over the US. Using their 3 and 4 star system that tells you what is a good deal, you can pick and choose your shopping list that fits your needs. The items include produce, meat, dairy, and non-processed food, as well as the other stuff.
There are many many methods to couponing. Some are just to shop sales, some are to cut out only what you will use, some are to file the inserts and cut as you need for sales, and many others. The posts and threads on PYP help you tailor couponing to your needs so you can cut your grocery bill in half or more and still buy only what you need.
And even if you don't find coupons for the food, there are always plenty of coupons or TP, toothpaste, deoderant and other health and beauty, laundry and household items that can help your budget.
Don't give up on couponing just because someone told you that this is the only system that works. There are many ideas and ways to do it.
A friend told me about this alleged guru of grocery buying, known as The "Grocery Guru" at work today. I looked-up the website through your blog. I would like to go see him speak, mostly to hear what inspired his search for frugality.
I agree with many of the other people who have not found Grocery Guru's advice to suit their lifestyle. I know that on his "weekly menu" there is a disclaimer to add your own vegetables, etc...but, to me, the fact that anyone would advocate such horrible meal choices is appalling! Imagine giving your children grilled cheese sandwiches and chips, frozen pizza and iceburg lettuce as their only vegetable. Truly reprehensible. You know there are people out there on a tight budget who will follow his plan to the letter and end up really hurting their families.
As far as spreading my money the furthest...
I like to buy staples like organic, brown rice, rice noodles, canned tomato sauce and paste, and spices. Once those things were pieced together, it became easier to use Pinching Your Pennies to buy perishables from my favorite stores.
Your blog is great, though, keep it up!
