Organize Your Jewelry

I awoke the other day with an organizing idea in my head. It was so strange because it was an actual idea that is going to change my jewelry-wearing existence. Was I dreaming about organizing my jewelry? Was my jewelry in need of organizing? Apparently, yes.

The idea was this: When I get my master closet built, I am going to apply a sheet of cork board to the back of one of the doors and hang my jewelry on it with thumbtacks. That’s it. That’s my inspiration.

Ok. I’m not saying this is a brilliant or even an original idea. But I'm EXCITED about it! I guess my jewelry HAS been driving me crazy. For one thing, I never wear it because I never see it. It’s stored away in the little tiny drawers of a tool organizer. Once in a while I make an effort to put some on for Church but mostly not.

My goal, when we went garage sale-ing on Saturday was to find a cork board for Persistence’s jewelry or some kind of frame so we could make our own cork board. Wouldn’t you know it, but we did find a corkboard for her. (Lara’s Law strikes again!) A girly, pink, fuzzy, with sparkles, cork board. It even came with it’s own thumbtacks and it was $1.

I know. What a ripe off! When Persistence asked the lady how much she wanted for it she said, “Do you want that cork board? I just knew some cute little girl would come along and want that board. You can have it for one... (here’s where I’m thinking “quarter” but she says) dollar.” A whole dollar! I thought you said she was cute! Doesn't cute get a discount? Do we look like millionaires? Feeling completely used, we buy the froofy thing and sulk off to the van.

Long gone are the days when my adorable little brood could score anything they wanted for a nickel. Now they’re just big annoying children, forced to use money instead of infantile charm to get what they want out of life. Luckily we have an up and coming cutie-pie in the ranks. We’ll train her early to do all our negotiating for us. She’d be wheelin’ for us now but she’d most likely swallow the nickel before she ever finished the dealin’.

I use key holders that screw into the wall from home depot. They are meant to be right on the wall inside your front door. They each have 5 silver hooks and a white painted wooden back. I have two of them in my closet side by side, and hang all my necklaces and bracelets there.

Hi there, love your website Lara. I bought 2 packs of rubberized hooks (white), 6 in each pack from the $ store. Screwed them into the wall behind closet door. Layered them in rows of 4 - 5. Looks great and like you said I can see what I have instead of digging through boxes.
