Cleaning Demons

Oh how I love the water and ice dispenser in my side by side refrigerator.

Oh how I hate trying to keep the spill tray clean!

Ice falls on it and melts. The hard water deposits build up and they do not come off, according to my lazy self anyway. Anything I have to scrub for twenty minutes is a lost cause. I took it off a few days ago to clean and couldn’t bring myself to do it. So there it sat in my sink for a week. In the mean time guess what I have discovered? Only time will tell but so far I like living without it! If ice spills out of the dispenser then I can see it sitting there and wipe it up right away. Yay! Another discovery that makes my life easier!!!

I’m sure there are other cleaning demons around us that are trying to make our lives miserable and that we could actually be living without. Can you think of any? Your children perhaps? Just kidding! (I think)

Oh I thought of a good one. How about horizontal blinds? I had those on every window when I bought my old house. First of all they are ugly, they block the view, they’re a pain to open and close and they are a nightmare to keep clean. (Sorry if you have these and like them!) I spent the first few years replacing them with drapes, basically just simple pieces of hemmed white linen. I like white to let in the most light and I’m using the same thing in this house.

I did get the tray clean by the way. I scrubbed half the plastic off in the process but it's clean! Now it's going into long term storage. Posted by Picasa

What a good, good, good idea. I might take down all my blinds and store them until we move out of here. (And clean them first.)

I think the people who manufacture appliances, etc. are in cahoots with the cleanser people. "How can I make sure this thing I'm inventing will take up the most amount of cleaning products?"

Yep, I bet that's what they think.

Ooh, that is such a good idea. I hate the drainy thing that really isn't a drainy thing on our fridge.

I agree with millie, they must be in cahoots. It all makes sense to me now.

You are so full of ideas? Where does this come from? I am ready to paint more of the many chairs that I took from your garbage pile. Do you want to help me? Oh, wait, I have to go and fold laundry! I always have laundry, maybe we need to be naked for awhile!
Do you have any ideas on organizing those cubbies in closets? I thought about baskets but I just don't know if I am motivated enough to use them, then there is the problem of finding just the right size for the space.

Help me my organized friend!

The owners of our house bought us the most beautiful blinds! They're a combination of vertical blinds and drapes. The blinds are -inside- the fabric. So you can have the drapes across looking pretty, then adjust the blinds to let different amounts of light in. They're luverly!

I'm with Millie - it's a conspiracy and I think we should expose them!

I just take my drain tray and put it in the sink with a paper towel saturated with vinegar. It soaks the hard water deposits off and looks beautiful in a matter of 5-10 minutes. No more scrubbing and scratching the tray. If the base under it needs it, use the paper towel there as well.

All hail to Kim for teaching us the true order of drain tray cleaning!

Now when is someone going to make the thing an actual drain???

We live in hard water country! Vinegar is the best at cleaning it away. I take the showerhead off (when my husband starts complaining about water pressure) & soak it in a bowl of vinegar. Voila! We have more than just a trickle for a shower again!
