Organizing E-Mails, Updated

Works For Me Wednesday. Doesn’t this just sound right up my alley? It is, except that I prefer a “Works for me Monday through Saturday”. What can I say? I’m just a “Works For Me” kind of gal!

Our topic for this lovely Wednesday is Organizing E-Mails. I like having lots of e-mail folders. Some of my e-mails are moved automatically into special folders. I can check them once a day or once a week as needed and they aren’t cluttering up my In-Box. If you have never done this before, right click on the e-mail you want to make a rule for and click “Create Rule”. It is pretty self explanatory from there.

The rest of my e-mails go directly into my In-Box. After I have taken action on them I put them into the appropriate folders for future reference. I have made a habit of moving the letters I send out of the Sent folder and into the appropriate folders as well, that way I can easily find them when I need to reference them. If I’m looking for an e-mail that my family sent me I can look in my Family folder and there is my reply right along with it. It’s wonderful!

I have never used Flags because I prefer to take action as soon as possible so I don’t have that many e-mails in my in-box. I also don’t receive a lot of e-mails with my simple life of a stay at home Mom.

I check my Junk-Mail folder every few days to see if a letter went in there by mistake. Then I delete all the junk mail and start over. For all the junk-mail that makes it into my In-Box, I right click on it and “add sender to blocked senders list”.

I know I have just scratched the surface of e-mail organizing so feel free to leave your own tips in the comments.

Update: Since writing this I have been playing around with Outlook Flags and I love them!!! I have every e-mail flagged as it comes in and I can flag different e-mails different colors according to sender, subject, etc. As soon as I take action on an e-mail I mark the flag as complete.

This is why I love to blog about organizing. It helps me get more organized!!!

I've been fooling around with the flags today and I think I'm liking them.

One some of my folders I have everything marked with a flag. As soon as I've taken action on the e-mail, I mark it as completed. I love it!

Anyone else use flags?

I'm SOO BAD about filing emails. I just sort by recipient after they really pile up and then put them all in a file at once. I admire you and Laura for actually "enjoying" the daily-ness of this sort of thing! Maybe if I keep hanging around you two I'll get inspired!

So nice to meet you - thanks for visiting me. I love your blog design and the fun way you write!

I'm also a folder junkie. I want flags though. Can I have flags too?
