Perfect Your Pie Crust
Don't recipes always say to cut strips of foil for the edge of your pie crust to keep it from over-browning? So I have spent years fumbling around with strips of foil that never stay on just right (I must be some kind of foil dummy) until last month when I made a turkey potpie with Thanksgiving leftovers. For some reason I got the idea to cut a SQUARE of foil big enough to cover my pie, fold it into fourths and cut a circle out of the middle of it. Wouldn't you know it but the dang thing fit perfectly over my pie crust and stayed put as it should!

No burned crusts here!
Check out more amazing ideas that will work for you! Not that this idea was amazing. It was pretty good though so I'd give it a 7 out of 10. What do you think? Is this going to be a life changing experience for your pies?

Loved this idea! and those chicken pot pies made me want a mid night snack! This is my first time to your blog and I really enjoyed it. God bless!
Um, there is a crust-coverer thingy out there in the universe so I don't have to do any cutting of the foil (which makes just as bad of a sound as grating nails on a chalkboard!).
But it's still a pretty cool idea!
And also bless you for not switching to Blogger Beta because IT SUCKS.
Thanks Pam!
Sally, I looked for one a while back and couldn't find one. Plus this works for any size pie so that makes it extra handy right?
I can't switch to Beta because I just got a new blog design and it doesn't work on beta. Are people having problems with Beta? I'm worried that they will force all of us to switch at some point. Who's going to fix my code for me when that happens?
INGENIOUS! I love it! No, I NEVER would have thought of it -- especially since I might make 2 pies a year, in an energetic year!
I'm having trouble posting comments to other people's Beta. Hence, I call it betabloggerbeelzebub. It makes me feel better, at least.
Shouldn't they have a Nobel Prize category for this kind of thing? I nominate you.
Great idea!
Aluminum foil is of the devil. Didn't know that, did you?
Luverly idea - I'll use it if I ever get "domestick" enough to try to bake a pie. ~lol~
Clever! I'm awarding you a gold star (as soon as I remember to go and buy some)!
A "pie changing idea" that I absolutely love however the simplicity of it makes me feel like an idiot for struggling for so many years. Definately Nobel prize worthy!
Thanks
Pam
ok.. don't know where I've been all my life... but I never even heard of having to put anything on the pie to not brown it. Guess I missed that home ec class. Thanks for the info.
Mmmmm those look so yummy. I have not attempted making a pot pie like that before. I just might have to do it after looking at those. Delicious. Oh, and thanks for the tip!
What a simple solution to something that I have never been able to figure out : ) !! Thanks for sharing!
dude. i did that once a billion years ago... and then promptly forgot... thank you for reminding me... no more burnt crusts for us!
