Super Speed Keyboard Hottie

*Edited

This whole laptop business isn't as easy as I thought it was going to be. First of all I have to get all my favorites and passwords and files set up the way I want them and it doesn't have all the same programs that my desk top has. I'm sure there is an easy way to go about this but I'm doing it the hard way. So what do I need to sync my computers? Does anyone have any advice for me?

Dial-up oh how I hate thee! How do people live in the dark ages like this? I told my husband when we bought our property that I wasn’t moving there if we couldn’t get wireless. I was willing to give up Heaven for High Speed. How desperate is that? We’re staying at my sister’s house for a couple days but I’m hoping and praying for the good stuff at the hotel once we get to California. And can I just say that staying up till 2:00 a.m. is not fun when everyone gets up at 6:00 to get ready for school?

Then there is the fact that my third arm has been cut off without a mouse to use. I had already been working on learning the hotkeys pre-laptop but I can see that I’m going to have to speed things up and learn all of them as soon as possible. I think I’m pretty “Hot” with the Ctrl A (select), the Ctrl C (copy), Ctrl V (paste), Ctrl X (delete), Ctrl S (save) and Ctrl Z (undo) but Ctrl+Shift with arrow keys (select text) is more than I could ever have dreamed of!

There is Alt+Tab that we all know and love, to go between applications quickly, but Alt+Esc? Who knew? The mouse is for people who have too much time on their hands, not for lazy people like us who want to get things done fast. You know, so we can have more time for folding socks. Not to mention the fact that we could really hurt ourselves pushing that heavy mouse around. Wonderful wide world of Hotkeys! Where have you been all my life??? Now that I’ve found you I will love you and cherish you and never let you go!!!

To find more beloved Hotkeys go here or do a search for yourself you Lazy Hottie.

* You don't have to know hotkeys to use a laptop, they just makes it so much faster. They make navigation with any computer faster. I am determined to learn as many hotkeys as possible so I started making my own cheatsheet. Here you go if you want to use it too. I'll be adding to it as I learn more.

Oh dear, and I asked Santa for a laptop. It took me forever to learn how to copy & paste!

That's funny. I used to use our laptop all the time until we sold it and had a hard time switchingover to a desktop cuz I'm not used to the mouse and the keyboards different and there's a number pad, etc lol

misslionheart fear not! I think most laptops have an option for a USB mouse you can plug in so you can keep on clicking if you like. What I need to ask for this Christmas is a new Santa Clause who will bring me these kinds of gifts too!

Wow, you must be in the dark ages... ever since we've gone wireless I just can't imagine the horrors of dialup ever again and feel such pity for those still attatched (read: MY MOTHER).

How's the trip going otherwise?

p.s. Since it's vacation, you can always go back to sleep after everyone gets off to school!

Hey you, you are addicted to computers! I hope you are having fun. Will you be in CA for Christmas or at your sisters? We are plugging away, not used to DAves new calling. When you get home after the holidays I hope you are ready to help me with some building projects. I don't know how to use any power tools!
Merry Christmas!

dial up is an evil thing. I've been spoiled to the point that I'm ready to pay to upgrade my DSL because it's too slow. how sad is that?

enjoy your laptop! I have to say, I would probably go the mouse route if I had one. I've used them occasionally and the no mouse thing drove me nuts.

Wow, this is great! Thanks so much for this list. I agree, Dial-Up is the pits. We have Optimum On-Line. Even that's slow sometimes, but not torturously (sp?) slow like dial-up. So I hope you 'speed up' soon!

Hi,

I am on the road now and I had prepared myself for a blogging blackout, but much to my wondering eyes- my inlaws get fee wireless via a neighboor!! Yea! Glee!

BTW my organizer bag saved my butt on the subway in NYC! I had stashed a bunch of loose change and had it oh so handy when I needed it!

We're all addicted to speed! We're in California now and getting wireless at the hotel. Yay! The kids are about ready to take me out because I'm not sharing the computer. I'm a selfish Momma! What do they need internet for when they have America's Funniest Home Videos?

Jane, I'm so happy that your organization was there for you when you needed it! A little bit of preparation can save the day!

Hey I need a hotkey combo for leaving clever comments on other people's blogs since I rarely get around to it anymore. Sorry. I hope you're having a great time in CA. You're missing out on all this fabulous Utah snow!
