Organized Girls Closet

Were you just dying to find out what exciting thing I was working on last week? I knew it! I needed to get started on another project so I picked the girl's closet. I didn't feel like tackling the entire closet all at once so I began with one wall and lots of my favorite things (hooks) that work with my other favorite things (Organizing Bags).

The entire project took less than three hours. I cut and hung and caulked the boards one night, the next morning I applied two coats of paint and that afternoon I installed the hooks. I put one row down low. Another row up a little higher where Persistence can reach but Lovely can't and then a third row way up there for long term storage. It's still waiting for some hooks.

I added some cork board to hang jewelry on and we made labels so the girls would have a spot for everything.

While I was at it I put up two rows of hooks in our bathroom so we finally have a place to hang our towels by the shower. Ahhh, the small luxuries of life!

See those chrome hooks? Everyone grab your wallets and run to Target because I bought them in the dollar section at four for $2.50. That is cheap!!! Ok, they look a little cheap but they are great if you don't want to spend a lot. I wish I had found them before I put the hooks in Persistence's closet. I paid $2 each for those hooks. I'm going back to Target tomorrow to buy up their entire stock so you had better beat me to it if you want any!

The funnest part of the project was when someone left the bathroom door open and this little twerp found the paint bucket. After dipping my tools and her body in the bucket and flinging paint all over the bathroom, she wandered down the hall to show me how much fun she was having. Do you think it is possible for a one year old covered in paint to walk across the house without touching every single thing she passes? The answer is no.

Okay, I would have had a complete breakdown. How did you even manage to come to scouts? Did you get it cleaned up? Did it damage the floor? Are you going to have to repaint the walls? The closets are fab, I am so jealous that you are so handy, please come and teach me.

Hey, I think it looks kind of pretty! You should give her a canvas and 3 or 4 colors and let her go to town, you could sell it for lotsa money!!

The closet is awesome- one question- what do you do with their dresses or is there a bar hanging somewhere?

I was actually laughing my head of when I found the mess! My husband started cleaning it up and I had to say, "Wait! I need to take a picture!" We wiped up the paint while the kids washed out our rags. We got it up while it was wet so it wasn't too bad. It could have been worse! It's funny how babies always come to tell you when they're causing trouble.

Kristi, this is just one wall in the closet. The other wall is going to have hanging rods and built in drawers. I just haven't gotten to it yet!

I would have cried. Such gorgeous wood floors with paint all over them. It pains me just to type it. You are such a better mom than I.

I love the hook idea.

Ooh, I love your organized closet project. I think I could do that at home myself. :)

Ouch on the paint spilled on the wooden floors. How do you get that off?

I actually did take your advice and rush to Target's dollar section and snatch up some hooks (they were $2.50, not $1, but I bought them anyway). I bought, I don't know, maybe seven packages, because I wasn't sure how many I was going to use them and wanted to be sure I had enough (planning to return the extras). You inspired me with your closet, and I think I'm going to do something similar for my daughter's hoodie/jacket collection. And for another daughter's purse/bag collection. I also want one for a "valet hook" in my closet. And maybe I just want them all over the place. I want to hang up everything, everywhere. If I can hang something on a hook, I will. This is my new year's resolution. I just decided after reading your blog.

Nice to meet you. Thanks for doing organization the way I would, if I were organized--lazily. (You aren't really lazy at all, but I love that title.)

I love those tragic/hilarious moments! One of the best pictures I have of Emma is her, one years old, climbing a mountain of cheerios she built in the kitchen (the price of buying jumbo cereal boxes!). So glad you snapped a picture of a priceless moment!

Oh man! That sounds like an all-too-familiar moment in my home! Sometimes its paint, and lots of times it is markers, or poop. Mostly poop. Today it was poop. It hasn't been paint for about a year, lol. But it has been marker on my fresh paint...... yep, all-too-familiar...

I know this is an older blog post, but I so had to add snippets of some of my "fun" kid moments. Wish I'd had the forethought for pic taking when my two (then little, 1 1/2 and 3yr old) boys decided they'd "help" me paint our hall. Did I mention it was after I had just finished an excruitatingly long session of faux paint effects... yeah finger painting at it's best. Or the time they decided frozen berries would look fantastic thrown around staining everything they touched in their bedroom (yup, to include ceilings, trimwork, walls, bedding, carpet, furnishings, toys... well I'm sure you get the picture).
