Organize Your Socks

“I KNEW you were wearing my socks!”

“Why do I have to keep telling you I don’t wear your socks?”

“Then how come I can see them on your feet?”

“Well, of course I’m wearing them NOW. I mean, normally I don’t wear your socks.”

“Then why don’t I ever have any socks in my drawer?”

Taking him by the hand and leading him into our bedroom to see at least a dozen pairs of sock littering the floor, “I think I have solved the case of the missing socks.”

A few days later I excitedly show him my new idea, The Sock Basket! He doesn’t seem impressed.

“Look! I put a basket right here next to the bed for you to throw your socks in!”

“That’s just dumb.”

“What do you mean? Now they won’t be all over the floor.”

“Well, it’s dumb that I throw my socks on the floor. You should tell me to stop doing it.”

I’m speechless. That is something I have never considered. If you don’t want your husband to throw his socks on the floor then you should ask him to stop doing it? I think that is going to be my next “This has never worked for me Wednesday but you should definitely try it for yourself.”

The sock basket has worked for me though and you really should try it. And then when your husband walks in the bedroom and sees a pair of your socks laying on the floor next to the bed he can laugh at you and make fun of you for being such a slob.

So I have shown you dirty socks in a basket. Now you are going to see a real treat: stockings in a bag.

You know how I feel about organizing with bags. I put my nylons into their own separate baggies to keep them from getting snagged in my drawer. If you have a larger collection than I do you could label the bags or (and I just thought of this) you could attatch the bag, using a clothes pin, to the outfit you wear the nylons with. I don't know. Now I'm probably just getting too crazy for you.

Here is one last sock tip for you. Instead of keeping your kid's socks in their rooms, find a spot for them by the back door. That way they can grab their socks and shoes and be on their way in a hurry. Not that you would ever be in a hurry. You are too organized for that!

I moved the dirty clothes hamper to my husband's side of the room. For the most part, it has worked pretty well! Socks are still something of an issue, but I don't really mind picking them up for my him.

Good ideas. Socks are a problem here too. I was putting each child's socks into mesh bags in the wash...that worked great. But since I've been too lazy to do that, we are having sock issues again. Thanks for the tips.

I'm not alone! My husband used to leave his socks all over the house-- now it's mostly just on his side of the bed on the floor. But I tell myself when I see the socks, "I'm glad I have a husband." I love the organizing bags!

I do something similar with socks and undies for myself. I tend to put off doing my own laundry as long as possible, I am pretty good about hanging up my "school clothes" and I can postpone for a while. So I put socks and undies in an empty pillowcase after removing them. Then when I am about to run out of underwear, I can throw them all in with a few towels. No searching through the hamper.

You'll never be too weird for me Lara! ~bats eyelashes at you adoringly, etc...~

Neil is going to be a bit freaked out though when he catches me stuffing nylons into ziplocs.

He likes that I've been happier since I started blogging, but he's not sure how he feels about the side-effects. =P

I Love it! I actually organize my kids clothes in bags by outfits. I never thought of it for nylons....inspiration is hitting! Thanks.

What a great idea :) And when are you going to start up “This has never worked for me Wednesday" ???? I'm sure I could come up with quite a few posts...lol!

Love your nylon idea. My tights and nylons get so mixed up and chaotic. I can never tell black from blue as I'm getting dressed.

Thanks for commenting on my blog. My daughter is 6.5 yrs. My kids have always lost their teeth late. Our dentist says its because they were late getting them as babies. We're still waiting on the 13 yr old to finish losing his so he can get braces!

I love the idea for nylons! Thanks so much for the tip! I am going to do that today (we are snowed in!)

I laughed so hard when I saw you filed this under the label "The Weird Family." You are so not weird ... I consider you perfectly normal :) !!

I am gratefully married to a DH who likes to pick up his socks. However, I am sure these tips will come in handy when I have teenagers in the house.

Happy Valentine's Day!

If you saw my sock drawer you would be ashamed! :) Oh, my husband and daughter are so horrible about leaving their socks lying around EVERYWHERE!!! So frustrating! But, I love this post...good ideas and good humor in one!

Lara, thanks for visiting me! I've been over many, many times to your site too!

I think that's a brilliant idea - at least they won't get snagged on the edge of the drawer.
