Fun Family Activity

Well we couldn't wait. We had to find out what that smell was in the pantry today.

You know when you come home from the grocery store and your 7 and 9 year old carry all the groceries in and put them away while you're unloading the toddler and getting dinner started?

And you know when you're certain you bought a carton of eggs but no one can find them so you decide you must have left them in the cart so you call the store and they tell you to bring your receipt in with you next time to pick up a free carton of eggs?

Except that you never do because your husband gives you the receipt but you keep forgetting to take it in until you eventually lose it?

And then you know when your pantry starts smelling funny so you go in there to do some organizing and you find a carton of eggs in the bottom of a grocery bag under the marshmallows and when you open the carton they look more like big blue speckled robins eggs instead of white chicken eggs?

Oh, that's never happened to you?

Well, if it ever did then when you were going to throw the eggs outside in the garbage can your husband would say, "Wait! Don't throw those away! Let's pitch them at the kids playing outside!" and he would be talking about his own kids.

You can pretty much figure then that he is planning on someone else cleaning the kids up after they are covered with rotten egg slime.

And that someone else would be you.

Oh Lara! I'm gasping for air I'm giggling so hard! But I'm laughing more at the realization that I could so easily do the same thing!

Ok, I am drowning! I know that I must recruit more help but it is difficult when some of them are gone! What is a crazy Mom to do?
I want one full week that I am able to do nothing but projects!

Lucky for you the kids didn't accidentally drop the eggs in the pantry after they were found!

I am glad I wasn't around to help clean up the smelly mess. I am lazy like that.

Fun! you should submit that idea to Family Fun magazine, or something like that. Glad you at least found the funny smell...

We've done this one. Ours was trickier to find. It turns outone of the kids had opened a pudding snack, had a bite or two, and put it back.

Somehow they managed to do it without pulling the foil lid off all the way. And then they stacked an unopened one on top of it.

That was some major grossness, but I still think it probably didn't smell as bad as your eggs.

You had the eggs.

I had the bacon. It was buried in the back of my van for too long. That was a creepy smell.

Thanks for the laugh.

Earlier this year we did something similar. Only it was a gallon of milk that got left in the back of our suburban. For a whole week. To become one big blob of curds with too much whey that leaked out onto the carpet. We didn't find it sooner because we didn't use the suburban for that whole week. We used old junky pick-ups to drive around the farm. Let's just say that Woolite Oxy for carpets does WONDERS!

The only reason that's never happened to us is Wombat is too young to unpack the groceries yet - but I believe it WILL happen - exactly as you describe ;P
