  • Go see if you're as weird as Andrea, Corrie and me.
  • The Deadline will be Thursday at 7:00 p.m. or whenever I get around to closing the comments.
  • Wait till Friday when I draw your name and post it here. (Of course you are going to win this! You didn't doubt it did you?)

Well, I am definately not a very organized person. But I do have certain areas where I shine, like the dishwasher. It has to be loaded a certain way or I WILL go back and re-do it. When my mother-in-law is here (for 6 weeks at a stretch!) and insists on doing the dishes, I practically break out into hives because she does it wrong and, well, she's my mil, so I can't very well re-do it then. But I sure would like to!

Just one weird thing about me? Oh how to choose. I hang my clothes according to color but doesn't everyone do that? :P The one thing I get laughed at the most for is organizing my flatware when loading the dishwasher. The rule is spoons with spoons, forks with forks and so on. I figure it makes it faster when I unload since I store my flatware the same way {like with like}. I'm even teaching my son to do it when he helps me with dishes. K, so you know my big secret - I'm entered now. ;)

I am not a fan of kitchen counter clutter. It took me about 5 years into my marriage before I allowed the coffee pot to sit on the counter every day. Finally, I gave in and realized I was being nutty...once again!!!

Ok. My one weird thing is I have to get into a made bed, whether it was made all day or not. I must straighten all the sheets, blankets etc. before crawling in for the night.

I have to clean my desk before I can work. I say it is because I can't work in clutter...it might be because I'm a procrastinator!

Ha--my daughter's preschool used that "don't throw a fit" line on them.

I am NOT organized, but I think I saw on some food TV show that it was more efficient to get everything out of your fridge in one trip, so I will stand there and load up my arms and then turn around and take the one step and put it all on the island. Ha.

At July 23, 2007, Blogger Dawn said...

Um let's see.

I knit dishcloths and I absolutely love wiping off the counter and admiring my work at the same time!

Does being addicted to my label maker count?

I'm not very organized, but I finally organized the cabinet over the coffee pot that has all the mugs etc, and I actually labeled the shelves with what was supposed to be in each spot. Yankee Bill made fun of me, but guess what? 4 months later and it has actually STAYED that way. Ha!

Organization? I love organization. One of my obsession is my filing. Things are filed in colored files depending on type (ie: bills, investments, insurances) each file in that colored section is alphabetized, each file is filed with the newest on top. I will stop there before I totally reveal my weirdness. Yes, it does go on. Yes, I know there are doctors for these issues.

So, please sign me up!

At July 23, 2007, Blogger Jenny said...

LOL! I'm like Rebecca...have to have the spoons, forks, knives in their own holder in the dishwasher. What most people roll their eyes at is that I have to have all my canned goods, spices, boxes and such stacked in my cabinets with the labels facing forward. Same thing with the fridge. I've been known to completely stop what I'm doing to empty my cabinets to correct them! lol!!

btw, I love these hooks and I can already see one in my bathroom!!

At July 23, 2007, Blogger Cara said...

Hmm, organized. My fabric is all organized~ prewashed, folded, and contained by color and use. My clean clothes are in the port-a-crib, but my fabric is right where I can find it :o)

OH, and for the commenter above, I LOVE knitted dishcloths! I don't do it myself, but I'm so in love with them that I'm buying some for my MIL for Christmas. Weird present, but it's the little things...

I think this is an organizing wierdness, well at least a housekeeping wierdness. I used to argue with anyone who would listen about what a waste of time making my bed would be - I just never did it. Now, I can't stand to leave the bedroom with the bed unmade, even when I'm laundering the linens ... that's why I have two sets.

Fun idea about the organization weirdness comments and of course I know I'm going to win the hooks ;-)

All God's best,

I love hooks! Awesome :)

Is it weird that I love every single thing I own to be in some kind of basket? I'm really surprised I haven't figured out a way to keep my kids in one but that might definitely be weird ;)

I'm probably alone in this but I actually like the appearance of clutter - organized clutter. If it were up to me, for example, I wouldn't have kitchen cabinets. Just shelves where I could display stacks of dishes. I keep my silverware in one of those drawer sorters up on the counter. I always know where everything is so it's not disorganized but I dont like to go into someone's home and feel like I'm in an antiseptic hospital environment.

Those hooks would be great for hanging all the things I prefer not to fold.... :)

I'm an unorganized person who loves to read organizing books and blogs! LOL!

One thing I do that drives my DH nuts is while I don't care if there are stacks of dishes on the counter, it drives me NUTS if the dishes aren't organized in the dishwasher. I have to go behind the family every night and rearrange the dishwasher the way *I* like it. lol...

Awesome hooks btw. They are gorgeous!

One weird unorganized thing about me....

I have stuff in my garage from 1994. It's moved around with me about 8 times since then.

My hubby keeps me "encouraged" to do a little at a time!!

At July 23, 2007, Anonymous Revka said...

I'm not the most organized person ... until it comes to pizza. I make homemade pizza and cannot bring myself to throw the toppings on any old way. I have to place each pepperoni (or whatever) individually, and it must make a neat circle with each individual part a respectable distance from its neighboring topping - not too far and not too close. I've tried just broadcasting, but I always end up going back and putting each piece in place. Weird enough for you? :)

Okay, I had my one weird thing and then I read the comments...I do ALL of those things! My closet is where I am most OCD - clothes are all on wooden hangers and are arranged by color, size, style, and must be evenly distributed! Those hooks are great - I hope I win!

I'm glad I'm not the only weird one on the dishwasher. My husband drives me nuts when he loads the dishwasher.

I organize my flatware by size in the drawer. I organize my towels by size and color. I make quilts and have been known to organize my fabric by size and color. But my closet? Forget it.

Oh, and you know the movie "Sleeping with the Enemy" where Julia Roberts was married to the guy who made her alphabetize the cabinets? Yeah, that's me. I've done that too.

One time I organized all of our books by author's last name. We have a lot of books. The plan didn't work so well because it mixed genres and drove us all nuts, so they had to go back to normal (organized by genre).

I like to think I'm an organized person. I live by my dayplanner. My clothes in my closet are in order starting with capris, pants, short sleeve shirts, long-sleeve shirts, sweaters, jackets, skirts, and then dresses. I used to feel more 'anal' (my husband's word for overly organized) but with kids I find to let a lot of things go and it secretly drives me crazy!

These will look great in my guest room. I am a freak when it comes to my towels. They must be folded in thirds. If they are folded by someone else I will check them and even spend the extra time redoing them if I do not like the way they were done. Imagine the time I could save if I would just let it be!

THe weird thing about me and organization is that I was hyper-organized at work (I stay at home now) and am an organizational wreck at home. But I did make some "too small for the big kid, too big for the twin babies" and "too small for the twins to wear now" boxes. So I am getting there!

How fun, great prize! Let's see I am a huge perfectionist so I'm actually very messy, lol. If I can't do it right I seem to shut down. Which is why I love sits like yours that make things easy! I'm also addicted to containers. I buy them all the time, you would think my house would be less cluttered, lol. My husband & parents think I'm a nut because I come home with containers all the time :) Well hope I win :)

At July 23, 2007, Blogger Kim said...

I am only an aspiring organized person (fledgling, perhaps) but my herbs and spices are alphabetized. And I'm developing the container addiction. I didn't realize how bad it was until we moved. I did a big purge first (with the help of a professional organizer) and I'm amazed at how many containers I now have sitting empty. They'll be filled soon enough, I'm sure.

I LOVE those hooks!

Only one organizational wierd thing? oh my..
Well, I separate my oldest son's Legos by color with each color in their own Rubbermaid-type clear box. All boxes are the same size with matching lids so that they sit neatly on a bookshelf. This sounds nuts but it prevents him from dumping out a huge tub of Legos looking for one certain piece of one certain color.

Does no organization skills at all count as a weird thing? I thought not. Well, I guess on kind of strange thing I can think of is that I organize the books on the shelf by size, not by author or title. By height is really appealing to the eye, and gives me a nice, satisfied feeling when I look at it! Hey, at least one thing in the house is organized! ;0)

When it's time to clean my kitchen (or pick any room), I *have* to start in a corner of the house, working my way to the room, cleaning and (re)organizing along the way. The problem is that I don't do this often enough.
