5 Really Lame Organizing Tips

Organized Planner

  1. Use an envelope for a planner pocket. I bought a new planner last month and it didn't have any pockets in it like my old planner so I improvised. I cut the top off an envelope, folded the flap backwards, licked it and glued it onto a page in my planner. Am I brilliant or what?

  2. Use a Post-It note for a book mark. (I told you these were lame tips.) I got tired of my two year old pulling my book mark out of every book she got a hold of so I finally started using a Post-It note. It's hidden in the pages so she can't find it and it sticks so it doesn't fall out while she's "reading". I stick it to the back cover while I'm reading so I always know where it is but it doesn't get in my way. I can also stick it to the exact sentence I ended on so I don't waste time re-reading to find my place.

  3. Tie a thin cute ribbon on the top spiral of your notebooks or planner to use as a place holder. My friend Amy showed me this and I love it. My two year old isn't allowed to "read" my planner.

  4. Keep a cup of ice cubes in the freezer. That way the noisy ice dispenser on your fridge won't wake the kids up in the morning. I'm not the only one who puts ice cubes in their cereal am I? I like cold milk ok!!!

  5. Keep a stash of $2 bills on hand to give away as Birthday presents. Every body thinks they don't make them any more but you can stop by your bank any time and pick up a handful. The kids (and parents) at the party will think you're cool. And who doesn't want to be cool! Especially in the morning while you're eating your cold cereal? (Seriously, I cannot be the only one who does the ice cube thing.)

Love #3...Never thought of that!

I really can't get behind you in the ice cubes in cereal thing. Doesn't it add to the sogginess?

Otherwise, not lame at all, actually quite helpful.

I've never tried ice cubes in my cereal. I have put them in glasses of milk before though.

I love the envelope in the planner, the post-it note bookmark, and the ribbon ideas as well. I have a little 2-year old reader who loses my place too.

Love the honesty, and can totally identify with the pencil fume thing! I started School Boot Camp this morning, waking the kids at dawn--practicing! I'm with Nikki, I always HAVE to have the ice in my milk glass. Never thought too much about the cereal deal...huhm, you might have a good idea! I have to wonder about the soggy factor mentioned above...Atleast if anyone asks the question, "Got Milk?" Your answer can be, "Yep, Ice Cold!"!

These are great lame tips! ;)

The only ice I put near milk is in my glass of Baileys Irish Cream :) LOL Sorry, never heard of putting it in cereal. Good news tho' I donated to your wonderful cause, such a great thing for you to do.

Love the tips..not lame at all :)
Didn't think to use a Post-it note as a bookmark. I often drop my book and the bookmarks falls out...thanks!

Lara, those are not lame at all because I do 2 of them :)

Did you see my post on post-its? I do that exact same thing in my Bible.

I love the idea of the ribbon on a spiral notebook - i can't wait to get home to "do" all my notebooks. Now THAT's lame :)

Cold cereal? Ughhh. I'm weird the other way. I put just milk in a bowl and heat that, and then put in my cereal because i don't like soggy cereal but I do like it hot!

I had to read your post just because of the description. They are actually great tips, though. Thanks!

Nothing lame about those tips!
I love #3 and definitely will be trying that one for myself and for DD's school planner. She will love it.
I was LOL at "my 2-year-old is not allowed to "read" my planner."

I use sticky notes in books, but mostly to keep my place while I'm knitting. I can move it along for each row.

I've never heard of putting ice in your cereal though!

The post-it for a book mark is a great idea. My bookmarks always get lost or chewed up & mangled by the kids. I've never had a planner with pockets so I guess I don't know what I'm missing out on but that's a great idea. I use two paper clips in my planner to keep my space. One of those with the little 'handles' that you squeeze to open and then flip over to keep the current month's calendar quick to open and a regular paper clip at the current week. And ice? In your cereal? Really? Hmm...

Umm I confess I have been using a post-it for at least a year or more for that exact reason! I love post-its for some reason - think the whole idea of paper with a little sticky strip is ingenious - just thought I would share my lameness too!

Ice cubes in the cereal??? Surely you ARE the only one to do this!! I don't even eat cereal, but that sounds, well, gross. However, I love individuality and you've certainly shown yours today!! : )

Your ice idea rocks! I drink lukewarm tea during naptime for fear of waking the kiddos by using the insanely loud ice dispenser!

Love these ideas to make life run a little more smoothly. (Hey, I'll take it when I can!)

I use a cute paper clip as a bookmark for the same reason!

My dad puts ice cubes in his milk. (Just drinks, not cereal...)

My Dad keeps a stash of $2 bills. He adds them to his tip at restaurants. I will have borrow the idea of giving them as Birthday presents.

You are so right about the $2 bills. I remember as a kid (30 years ago!) getting them and just thinking how "special" I was. I'm going to go this week and git me sum! Great tips...not lame. :)

For being lame, those were pretty good tips. I'm impressed. I like the envelope idea.!

Um, I'm all for cold milk as much as the next guy, but doesn't the ice water everything down??

And I love your post-it note idea. That will also help with the fact that I never remember where I put my "real" bookmark...

Ice in the cereal? I hate to say it, but that's kind of odd. Do other people do that?

Boy have you got a mind... these are some very simple, VERY brilliant tips! Thanks!

BTW I just saw (yesterday) that you'd extended the Rockin' Blogger award to me last month. I commented there, but will again here - THANK YOU! I was out of town and completely missed it!

I love ALL your tips (the ice cubes tip I'll have to pass along to my husband - he's the one in the family who likes cold milk :), especially the post-it note bookmark. I've used these before in catalogs, but it makes so much sense to use them in books (as you so eloquently pointed out). Thanks!

I would always put ice cubes in my milk. I love cold cold milk. I haven't done it in cereal, but I don't have milk or cereal anymore. I love all your tips.

Do you think there would be a way to lock those bags? I only ask because we have to keep medication under lock and key for fostering. The bank bags get expensive FAST. But these look like they could do the trick... if I could only figure out how to lock them. lol.
