Organized Playroom

This is what happens when a friend with six kids comes to visit! Victor cleaned it up last week and then the two older kids and I went through and organized all of it. Persistence is ruthless when it comes to throwing things out because it's usually her job to clean it all up. She was trying to throw some things out that made me say, "No! We have to keep that!"

Much better. There was a basket full of things that belonged in other rooms. We got rid of a box of stuffed animals and another box of dress-ups and junkie toys.

This is a tiny room that doesn't even have a closet so it doesn't hold much. Some day it will be a guest room but I like it as a toy room. (And some day I will make a real curtain for the door!) It is just off the living room so it's easy to put things away that wander out and we can shut the door when we don't want to look at the mess. Better yet we can lock the mess in and the kids out! It's been nice to get all the clutter out of the girl's bedroom. We kept two boxes of dress-ups and costumes, one box of stuffed animals and dolls and one box of dishes.

We have one cupboard in the living room that's full of puzzles and games and my kids have a box of Lego's, a box of trains and a box of cars under their beds but these are the only toys the kids own. Are you feeling sorry for them yet? I'm not and you can be sure we won't be buying them any toys for Christmas. I think they already have more than enough.

Really, what more does a cowgirl need?

A note about our tumbling mat in case anyone asks. I keep it in this room to give the kids a soft place to play. We bought it the year I was pregnant with Lovely and it just about saved our sanity that winter. The kids tumbled away the cold dark days. Anyone with little kids should get one if they have the space to spread it out. It folds up neatly in a corner when you're not using it and it's also great for forts. We got a good deal on ours because it was damaged but they can be pricey. It would make a great Christmas present for the whole family. Haven't you always wanted to see your husband do a cartwheel?

I also like the before and after pictures.

I need a tumbling mat....but no room...so instead I put my son on the boys gymnastic team.

I so agree with you that less toys are better. I actually feel bad for kids with too many toys.
Love the mat! What a great idea. Maybe we can do our whole basement in that. haha.

Okay so were you tempted to lock them out so it would stay that beautiful and tidy for a day or two?

I'm pretty sure I would've been.
