Another Birthday Party and A Little More Work
Persistence had a birthday party today. It didn't quite work out as easy and stress-free as Victor's party a few weeks ago. I actually had to plan this one!

Persistence is my little chef so I had an expert come to teach her and three friends how to decorate cakes. (She got a cookie press for Christmas.)

They had a great time but you know who had the greatest time? My ten year old son! He would have spent four hours decorating his cake if he could have.

Aren't they beautiful? Can you tell which one my two year old did? That was supposed to be my cake but Lovely wouldn't let me near it. She had to decorate it by HERSELF! I snuck in a little border around the bottom and she almost didn't recover from the insult.
After we were done with the cakes everyone made their own pizza.

Persistence modeling her Christmas present.

We actually don't have friend parties every year and when we do I definitely don't go all out like some people do. Simple and easy is my style as we all know.

I think this will be a birthday to be remembered for your daughter. I am a firm believer that birthday parties do not need to be just a bunch of kids running around screaming. Even with just one or two friends, it's nice to do something different and I'm sure that cake decorating lesson will go on for years to come! :)
(I would LOVE to learn to cake decorate!)
I love that apron. What cute cakes.
My kids would have a heart attack if they didn't have a friends party every year. This year we are doing just one friends party for all 3 kids at the same time. We are doing it this summer. I hope this idea works. It will be nice only to do it once a year.

Amy, I've thought about doing that too since my kids all have winter birthdays. It would be fun to rent out the skating rink and invite everyone we know.
I keep telling my kids we should celebrate their half birthdays in the summer but we never do.
Love the idea for the party and I LOVE that apron!!
We decided not to do parties every year, too. The grandparents come over the weekend between their birthdays and that's their party. So far it's worked pretty well...but then again they are only 2 and 4...
That's a really cool idea for a party, I'm sure she loved it!!
What an awesome idea to do for a party. It looks like it turned out pretty good.
We only do friend parties every other year starting when they are six...because we want to have a big bash when they turn 8.
Plus, I don't want spoiled kids. And I don't have the energy.
I LOVE that apron!!!
My parents had a standing rule that our birthday party budget doubled if we only invited two friends. =)
It all looks so, so lovely!
Wow!!!! So much fun. I believe simple is best (and easiest!)
Simple is always best, although I think your take of "simple" is much more complicated than mine because you possess much more talent :) !!
Sewing and cake decorating just don't come easy to me. That is probably why I can truly admire the work and creations of others :) !!
What a fun idea for a party! I'm going to keep this one in mind for when my little princesses are a little older.
I'm so grateful I met you and found your blog. You are completely inspiring! I love the idea of having someone come and teach the kids something for a party. And the aprons are just darling!
BTW--I organized my bedroom this week and gave away over 75 pieces of clothing! (Dh and myself combined) It feels so much better to have less stuff. And my room is clean! :) Thanks for the inspiration!

Great idea for a party! My daughter's b-day is in April, I'm going to see if she would like do do that. The apron....too cute.
I'm going to have to try to make one like it.
please I am BEGGING you...share with me your secret to using the cookie gun thingie. How soft does the cookie dough have to be? I have bought a few of those cookie shooters before, only to completely screw it up EVERY TIME. So please advise. I would LOVE to be able to make cookies like that for my kidlets.
BTW, the cakes and pizzas look like a FAB idea. Gonna have to file that one away.
:)
Looks like a really fun party! Cute apron too.
Great idea there. What fabrics did you use on P's apron? They are awesome.
I really like the idea of having someone come over to teach about something the child loves. That is a fun idea and productive. Keep it up and one of these day's you'll have an expert around the house to help out.
A friend (guy of all things) really liked baking in high school. Ended up practicing and getting better and better. He sold his cakes each year at the FFA auction for hundreds of dollars, it was awesome. All because he was encouraged and allowed to try.
that is awesome how fun...and the pic with the teacher looks like it came from a martha stewart magazine...darling aprons sorry im typing with a sick 7 month old on my lap and its 2.30 am
We've just decided that a good idea for our 3 is 'year about', on their 'even' birthday they have friends for a party, and 'odd' birthday they take one friend to 1 event, so when my 6 yr old turns 7, she will take one friend with our family to the movies or bowling or whatever her choice is, then 6 months later my 4 yr old will turn 5, and my baby will... no, let's not go there yet!!! :-(
oh, ok, we do a big party (60 or so guests!)for the 1st birthday cause it's the last one that's really for the parents, and it's a great way to say thank you to everyone who has supported us during pregnancy, birth & the first year!
Love, love, love the teaching new skills idea for a party! You have so many amazing ideas, your site is my new obsession!
