I Bought Stuff

I know. We are always spending money. But the questions is... on what? Is it useful? Is it going to last a long time? Do we need it?

I haven't bought new sheets for our bed or my son's bed for ten years. They were so thin that we could see through them and the edges were all frayed. Then they started ripping and Stranger still couldn't bare to part with them so he sewed them up. By himself. Because I refused to waste time on a lost cause. WE NEEDED NEW SHEETS!

Well, the sewing actually held up for a few more months. Long enough for me to find some more sheets for a good price. So we have new sheets for our bed and for Victor's bed. Aren't we so frivolous?

Oh and I also bought myself two new towels this week. Stranger and the kids got new towels for Christmas but I didn't. (We all have different colors so I know who to yell at when they get left on the floor.) Yep, we've also been using the same towels that we got for our wedding almost 12 years ago. Is that gross or thrifty?

My excuse is that I was going to buy new towels when we moved. Well, we decided to move about five years ago but it took us three years to move and then two more years to actually buy the towels. I think that makes us careful consumers. Or lazy.

um, we've had the same towels for 8 years. We even use the towels from before my husband's mission. 11 years ago?

and some of our sheets were given to use when we purchased our bed used 8 years ago... they had to have been several years old then... sheets are just dang expensive...

We are still using towels I got when I went to college 15 years ago. So, I think your towels are just fine. Ours still have a lot of life left the edges are only a little bit frayed.

We're still using the towels we got from our wedding over 14 years ago. We are due for some new sheets, though, because ours are starting to rip.

Sounds we have a lot of like minded people here! We are still using our towels from 13 years ago too.

I like the idea of different colored towels for each family member. My husband and I don't even have kids yet and we have separate colored towels! I would like monograms ideally, but that's spendy!

Different coloured towels for each person is soooo brilliant. Consider that idea stolen!

If you buy the right stuff, right quality...stuff you won't change your mind about five minutes later, then you've got being thrifty pretty well sewn up, I figure.

That is one adorable photo!
My mil just bought us new sheets for our anniversary--kind of an odd anniversary gift, no?! I appreciate them though, so much!

obviously the consensus is - towels last a long time...

We used the towels my parents got when they got married until about the time I was in middle school, so that would be about 16 years?

Then my parents are still using the ones they bought then (though they're wearing thin, but my mother is using them until she can find some she's as happy with) so thats about another 14-15 years on that set of towels...

I figure my set from going off to college (now almost 8 years old and not wearing thin yet) should hold out at least another 8 years (though I hope to find a hubby and get married before then - so I'll probably have new towels before then...)

Lazy or careful...either way it was smart. I just love new towels and getting them is such a rare occurance that it makes the whole event even more luxurious.

Guess what - I bought stuff today too. A shoe organizer. Long overdue.

Yep-using towels forever and ever is not gross, it's thrifty. At least I have to think so since my towels are also ancient. ;)

One day, I would love to spurge on those really thick and fluffy kind. But until I choose to have the money for them, I'll use towels that are shredding so much that my head gets stuck through a hole! LOL

BTW-Thanks again for coming and talking to us! It was a real treat to meet you.

Cheers!

We finally, recently bought our first set of new towels after 14 years of marriage, because we happened to find them 60% off... the next week my visiting mom stuck them in the washer with bleach. As they are colored towels, that didn't work out well.

Thanks MOM!

Thanks again for the inspiration; My current strategy is to throw stuff away until I'm organized, so eventually I'll either be organized or have nothing. Works for me!

Life is too short for bad sheets or towels, but when you get good ones, they last nearly forever! We bought our first set of new sheets (as opposed to hand me downs we were given when we got married) last year for Christmas, and they were so worth the $!

Enjoy your comfy new bedding!

OK.. I want to know the details on that towel that your daughter is wearing in the pic!!! Is that a hand towel folded and sewn at the top for a hood? I am thinking I have to buy the "stuff" to make these for my grands! It looks fabulous!
