Book Worms

I punished my kids tonight by sending them to bed without letting them read. They were acting like two year olds at the grocery store (except for my two year old who was being completely decent) and that was the best I could come up with. I wanted something really painful and no reading just about killed them. Mission accomplished.

Stranger snapped this photo of Persistence the other morning as she was cooking oatmeal. My kids read while they eat. They read when they wake up. They read before they go to sleep. They read in the car. They listen to books on tape while they do their chores. And apparently they read while they cook.

They only time they won't read is when I'm on the phone. They like to take that opportunity to run screaming through the house, either fighting or playing some wildly exciting game. In case you're wondering, I don't have any friends. At least no phone friends. If you want to be friends with me you either have to be content with the time we spend in person or else you have to like e-mail.

Speaking of my pregnancy. (We were talking about bratty children, right?) This new Sweet Little Troublemaker is getting big. I mean, people are starting to touch my stomach and my maternity clothes are starting to fit, big. And the contractions are getting a tiny bit painful. I'm really looking forward to three months of painful contractions.

I'm officially six months along today. At least I think it's official since I'm due May 9th and today is February 9th.

Have I mentioned that we're not finding out the sex? You are just going to have to wait till May to find out what kind of present to send. Although you could start sending cash right away. Cash is always in fashion.

My mom had to punish us by making us put the books away and go outside to play. How rude!

I've had painful contractions the last 3 months! But I'm done on Tuesday. Yay!

I hope your contractions don't get too bad!

I can feel your pain. I remember our mud! You do have to remind yourself that this year won't be quite as bad because you have your beautiful sidewalks and they will help so much!

I love the picture of K reading! I would love to read like that! I just have people that think that I should feed them, do laundry etc.!!

That is a great picture. I hope my kids like reading as much as yours. So far they seem to.

My sister is due in May also! A couple weeks after you & she's having a little girl. I hope the rest of your pregnancy goes well.

When I got grounded I got grounded from books as well. It's the only punishment that got my attention.

Hey, your kids would fit right in around here!

I've had to ban books from the car because they always end up damaged in one way or another...now I can't get anyone to go anywhere with me! Royal pain!

That is so funny that your punishment for them was to not let them read...because that is exactly what I used to do to my oldest. He read EVERY waking moment and would even wake up in the middle of the night and grab a book...then wanted to sleep in the next day. For fun he would sit and read encyclopedias.

Now the younger one (8 years younger) I'd be better off MAKING him read for punishment except I don't want him to hate reading so I've resisted that. LOL

Your due date is the same day that I had my first. She is going to be 13 on May 9th.

That cracked me up about not having friends that you can talk to on the phone.

I think the kids sense a disturbance in the force when I get on the phone. They come out of the woodwork to start acting like goofballs!!!

That was so me when I was a kid. How 'bout reading while practicing the piano???? Yep! Scales and Hanon were the best!!! That reminds me of a book story from my childhood that I'll have to post!

I read like that & I still read if I'm stuck in the kitchen cooking :) My 10 year old hates reading & would rather nap then read, lol. I'm hoping my 6 year old enjoys it more, so far she does, just not as much as me. I started having contractions at 5 months & they hurt too! I delivered at 35 weeks, but by week 30 I just cried every day, lol. I can't believe you are 6 months along already :)

another one here who reads whenever she can, even while cooking. Lots of people have an easel in their kitchen for the cookbooks they use, I use mine to hold my reading book! I sometimes wonder if my reading is an addiction.

Hey, I'm fitting in nothing but maternity clothes now, and my contractions are starting to get painful also! How many more weeks do we have?
