Nothing Extra
How would you like to live in a clutter free house like this? I found the link on Design Mom's blog. Take a look at all the photos of the house. It's amazing.
I personally like my home a little more comfortable and cozy but all that empty space looks refreshingly clean and it got me thinking about what I could do to de-clutter my home.
You know where I want to start right? The kids stuff!!! I had a vision last night of what I could easily do in the playroom to get it organized. I need to install some hooks for the kids to hang their dress up clothes on, keep a small basket for a few accessories and then get rid of the rest. We have already gotten rid of a lot of dishes and stuffed animals but we need to go through them again. Why? Why do they need so many? They don't! And that's really all they have in their playroom; dishes, dress up clothes and stuffed animals.
The game cupboard in the living room also seems to get unorganized pretty quickly. I want to go through it and weed out the things the kids don't use. That will make it easier for them to put away the things they do use.
I have a dream of living in a home surrounded by family and things that are beautiful and truly useful. No clutter. Nothing extra. Simple.

There is no way someone lives in that house!
I think all the windows and how open it is helps with how the house feels. I notice such a difference in my own house when the blinds are open or closed.
LOL!! I think my kids would love it because of all the space to RUN! They had to clean out that house before they took those pictures. Or else, only 2 people live there with NO KIDS!!
Wait, in your playroom, you seriously don't have arts & crafts stuff, blocks, cars or trains, puzzles, and other manipulatives?
I mean, our playroom is definitely organzied (when it's all put away), but we have so many different types of things for them to do.
Okay, I went back and read your playroom post - the one in the link. I remember reading it before as well.
I realized that is where the difference lies! We have absolutely NO toys in the bedrooms because we have an exceptionally large playroom.
I was feeling sorry for your girls after todays post and about to mail them each a puzzle!! LOL!!!
Sorry for the confusion. Glad you don't make me feel like a total hoarder anymore! LOL!!!
There is a different spot in the house for everything. We have games and puzzles in the game cupboard, crafts in my studio, dressups, animals and kitchen toys in the playroom and legos, trains and cars stored under the kids beds which they don't play with more than once a year. Every time I suggest they get them out they tell me no thanks!
I love how you inspire me to de-clutter!
That house though? Weird!!
i feel your pain about the stuffed amimals but if i ever thought of getting rid of them, i think my daughter would have a small heart attack. she knows them, names them and when one is missing, there is a dire search to find the missing link. drives me batty but it makes her smile. what we do for love huh??
I've read of parents who literally limit the number of toys each child has to like 10 and that's it. I haven't done and sometimes wonder if I'd ever have the guts to do that. But boy it sounds nice sometimes. The thing is that these parents say their kids actually play more than they did when they had an abundance of toys. Art & crafts didn't count as toys by the way.
That house seems sterile. I want way less clutter, and it is a constant battle, but I want to feel like I can move and live in my house. It seems like the toys clone themselves or have some other means to duplicate, sometimes!
Beautiful house, but is sure doesn't look like it would feel homey! I have to have pictures on the wall and big fluffy rugs or at least some carpet. "Warm" stuff.
I am envious of your playroom. We don't have too many toys for the kids, but we don't have a dedicated "play" space. They keep most toys in their rooms and we have a couple of bins under the stairs that I let them pull out once in awhile.
The thing I do have too much of is coloring books! Ugh! I don't buy them for them, but they seem to get one at every birthday party they go to and when anyone comes to visit. They are taking over my craft shelf and I can't seem to throw them out!
I could never bake in that kitchen.
I tagged you! Check out my blog for details.
I have that dream too. One day hopefully....
