Smart Habit Saturday

My new laundry habit of doing one load of wash a day and hanging it to dry is going great. Laundry is pretty easy at our house. If you are having trouble with laundry then
- You probably have too many clothes.
- You have too many clothes.
- You need to get rid of some of your clothes.
At our house
- The kids help with laundry. My 10 year old son does his own and my eight year old daughter is in charge of putting the rest of our laundry away.
- We all have a minimum amount of clothing.
- We each have our own towel that we reuse a couple times before washing.
- Each bed has one set of sheets that we wash and put right back on the beds.
- Laundry never piles up or we would have nothing to wear, sleep in or dry off with.
I'm going to start a new habit this week. The kids and I are going to work on cleaning out the van every day. I try to keep on top of this but most of the time I fail and it ends up looking like a mess. There is no reason why my kids can't pick up their things and bring them into the house so I'm going to be strict in checking it every single day.

I don't have many clothes but am lazy so I fall into the trap of getting dressed from my laundry basket. :paperbagoverhead: Great job on your laundry habit. I think cleaning out the van daily is a great idea, esp the kids helping part. I try keeping a small bag, like a grocery store bag, in the car to throw garbage in which also can make cleaning up easier. Occasionally I use my big red bag (very large purse) and I can toss extra toys, shoes, socks, cups, whatevers into there before going in the house. Have a great week!
One of the biggest reasons I want a blog is to participate in SHS!! I have a 12 yo and I just don't trust him with the laundry! Help! I would love for him to learn but I am so afraid he will ruin stuff. How do you deal with this? Thanks, thank and more thanks!!!

I'm assuming you have heard of Flylady, but this is exactly her philosophy. It has helped me to not buy too many clothes for my kids, especially since they will just outgrow them eventually. It also helps that I'm cheap, er, frugal. I still have a hard time getting rid of excess clothes, but little by little people like you are motivating me.
Thanks!
This is my first week for SHS but I think this is just the motivation I need. Thanks!
We don't have a lot of clothes either for that exact reason...LAUNDRY!!
Good luck with keeping the car cleaned out. I find that the toys that make it into the car seem to breed like bunnies...
Hi I am new to this!! I did try to link back but the Jen L #6 is wrong. I did correct it. I hope you will inspire me to get my act together.
That's great that they laundry thing is working out so well! I love having kids old enough to help out! Good luck with getting the van cleaned out!
It is so true that having too much (of anything) just makes work to maintain and care for it.
Blessings,
Jen
I am totally the same on the clothes. We keep it to a minimum. I'm bad with the towels and whatnot though. Nothing bugs me more than going to the closet for a towel and not finding one. Keep up the good work!
I try to clean my car once a week. My neighbor thinks I am crazy when I go out there with my little dust buster every week. I have to admit though that I have been kinda lazy about cleaning every week this winter. It is just too cold!
I am working on my little bad habits and trying to make them smart- Laundry is my big one! I think I will write a little post about your smart habits- What a great idea!
Oh my...I needed to read this. Thanks!
I'm interested in how you hang out your clothes to dry, especially in the winter. I would like to try this but I'm nervous about clothes never drying and getting mildewy. Would you mind sometime posting some pictures of your setup? Thanks again for the great ideas!
