Stop Buying Hay

If you haven't read Julie's post, What if. . . none were enough?, on the subject of Stuff you need to head over there right away.

Did anyone see Oprah today? Does this clutter make my butt look fat? I caught a few minutes of it at the gym. Peter Walsh had the woman in tears numerous times in the 15 minutes that I watched. He called her fat about 50 times. I think having someone call me fat over and over would make me cry too.

It's an interesting idea but I don't agree with Peter's premise. Clutter has never made anyone fat. I do agree that someone who is fat and lazy will probably also have a cluttered house but there are plenty of overweight people out there who are organized and not lazy in the least. Of course I didn't see the whole show so maybe I missed the point. What do you think?

Oh and there were a couple other women in the room watching the show and I mentioned that the woman's house didn't look any worse that most homes in America. Both of them agreed and said their houses looked just like it! Have you seen my garage lately? It's sad but definitely not fattening.

I saw part of Oprah today. As far as the clutter making her fat, at one point they went into her kitchen and he said that someone with a dirty, cluttered kitchen is unable to cook healthy meals and will instead go out to eat. I don't know that I agree with that 100%, but I do know that when I go into my kitchen and it's a disaster area, I'd much rather go out than cook something.

you got the gist of the show, it was interesting, but not necessarily truthful for all. my house is cluttered and i'm not fat! whatever, but i guess some are. i agree with cara tho, i'd rather get some take out then clean my kitchen so i can cook sometimes. i hate cooking with cluttered counters, hmmm maybe i should go throw in a load of dishes!

How about the opposite - I'm an organizing fiend and my house is in great shape, but I am, hmmmm, how should I say it, plump? I am a believer in the "two camps" theory: you're organized or you're not - your brain just doesn't work that way. You can swoop in and organize a person's life but if that isn't their mode of operation it won't stick. This I know from personal observation. And I don't see any correlation between fat and cluttered in my experience.

If someone called me fat multiple times on television, I wouldn't cry, I'd take a swing at him!

I missed the show. I love Peter Walsh, but I agree I don't really get this idea. I think it is good to think of clutter & weight loss etc. However, I am thin, always have been & I have always been a clutter bug. I think getting rid of some of my clutter would make me happier & less stressed, I don't see it doing anything to my weight.
