Talk About Tuesday

Talk About TuesdayWelcome to Talk About Tuesday! If you are new, check out the Guidelines before posting. Thanks for joining us!

I have news! It's official. I am speaking at the Thomas Jefferson Education Forum on March 1st. If you haven't already signed up to go then you must do so immediately. It will be fabulous and not just because I'll be there. That's part of it but all the speakers are wonderful and plus don't forget that I'll be there. Click here and scroll down to see Moi and my class description.

As a bonus today I am talking about...

The Secrets That Are My Life

  • We bought several sets of shelves today to organize our food storage.

  • Now if only our basement wasn't such a wreck so we had somewhere to put them.

  • I confess that I didn't make my daughter's baptism dress. I bought it. I learned a lesson from my last sewing fiasco where I could have bought a dress at an expensive boutique and spent less than I did for the fabric of my daughter's Halloween costume. It almost ripped my heart out to not be hemming something on the way to the Church (a family tradition) but what was done was done and we all lived happily ever after.

  • My Christmas tree is finally out of my living room and put away.

  • My life is plauged by Box Elder bugs and according to Stranger there is nothing we can do about it because we didn't spray for them in the fall. How were we supposed to know we needed to spray for them? We didn't have this problem last year. How fun is it to wake up every night/morning with bugs crawling on your face and in your underwear? You want to come visit me now don't you.

  • This fall we will be spraying for bugs. I already have it written in my calendar.

  • Sometimes my two year old tucks herself into bed. Sometimes when she tells me she's tired and I'm in the middle of something I will tell her to go potty and get into bed and I'll be right there to tuck her in. Except that sometimes I forget about her and she's asleep before I get there. Sometimes my bad mothering skills bring tears to my eyes.

  • I make it up to her by letting her "help" me in the kitchen. I think the patience involved with that pretty much makes me a Saint in spite of my other weaknesses.

  • My family stinks. Truly. Yesterday everyone ate garlic noodles but me and I about choked to death sleeping with stranger last night. Then today I had to drive around with the windows open because the children still stunk. Normally I'm eating garlic with them so I guess I don't notice the smell. I want to apologize to everyone right now. I had no idea we were so stinky and I feel bad about it. Not bad enough to stop eating garlic but still pretty bad.

  • We lost the password to our wireless internet router for a while. Guess where we found it? Typed up with my label maker and stuck to the front of our computer so we wouldn't lose it.

  • Today I was looking for the password to our safe. I told Stranger that we should have stuck it on the front of our safe because no one would ever think to look there.

  • You want to be as organized as I am don't you?

  • Stay tuned for more embarrassing secrets about the Lazy Organizer...

I want to know more about that shelving! We are getting ready to line our basement walls with shelving racks for storing food and other things. I think it's going to be quite expensive (even if we use inexpensive shelving because we need so many), but we want something sturdy that will last.

Um, EW! about the bugs...

But I still love you.

Maybe they'll be driven out by the garlic smell??

What a fun post to read. I love hearing about "dirty little secrets" because it makes me feel like my own shortcomings (a sink full of dishes and a bathroom garbage that overflows on a regular basis) are not quite so unusual. Have a great day.

I had the same problem with box elder bugs at our last home. Our house was pale yellow, but in the spring (and summer) the south side of the house was black with a tint of red. billions (I am not exaggerating) of bugs everywhere. Box elder was my daughters first experience with solid food :) she liked to eat them. I did find some stuff that helped though it is called "Total Pest control" the outdoor formula and it was in a concentrate. I mixed 3 tsp per gallon of water and sprayed my entire south side of my house and the tree in which I thought they were coming from. I did it in the spring and later in the summer. It seemd to help. i bought it at Western Gardens in Salt Lake. I hope this helps.

That is so funny about the password and being stinky. In my old apartment, we had so many box elder bugs. It was gross. When I went to clean out our windowsills there were hundreds of dead box elders that didn't quite make it to the other side. Gross!

Box elder bugs are the worst! We had them so bad when we lived in Illinois, they practically covered the side of the house, ewwww!!! Sending my sympathies :)

My grandma used to get the Box Elder bugs, but only in the fall. What a nuisance.

LOL! You're so down to earth, I love it. Thanks for being real with us.

The password thing made me laugh! We lost the password to our router but unfortunatly it is not taped to the front of our computer. Maybe your family seems extra stinky to you because of your heightend sense of smell, being pregnant and all. Maybe you are the only one noticing the smell.
:-)

Where I grew up in Saskatchewan Canada, we called those bugs Maple Bugs (I looked them up to see what they looked like.) They must just be called the name of whatever tree they like in each area! Weird. They can get everywhere and tickle at night. :)

first, what are elder bugs? is this like the geriatric of the bug world? i always wondered where older bugs went to retire - now i know, you're underwear drawer (sorry i had to make a joke - that's just me).
second and last - i'd pay huge amounts of money for my kids to crawl into bed without a peep...huge money!!

Thanks for letting me know about the TJE thing AFTER the early bird special. Now I'll have to pay $68 just to come hear you speak. Can you please just drive a little farther south and give a second performance at my house for free? Thanks very much.

P.S. Don't bring any box elder bugs with you.

My sis gets a ton of Box Elder bugs and I guess you can spray them with dishsoap and water and it kills them. Something like that at least, I can check with her if you'd like. Nice when you've got little ones around and a baby on the way, not toxic.

*wave* I'm Marni's sister. We live in Box Elder Co. I hate these awful bugs! I hate how they fly and land wherever they darn well please. I hate the crunch when you squeeze them with wads of tissue.

I have been told by multiple people to mix a gallon spray bottle (like the kind you would use to spray weeds) and add a couple tablespoons of GREEN (Dawn I think) dishsoap. It suffocates the bugs. I mix some up in a spray bottle for my 4yo. She loves killing the bugs for me. Makes me happy! My friend's grandpa told me to mix HOT water. I haven't tried that yet. Tempo is a really good spray (we've gotten it from IFA). I was told to spray in early June when the babies come out of their eggs, but that starts happening around April I think. They seem to love (live in/ on, lay eggs on) our rock driveway, wood chips, and leaves that are lying around.

Hope this helps!
