Quiet Please!

I'm sick to death of kids slamming doors around here. Lovely, especially, is a professional door slammer and no matter how many times I tell her she doesn't have to shut EVERY door behind her she just can't stop herself.

We have wood doors so I don't know if they shut a lot louder than other doors or if I'm just imagining it but they are LOUD! With a husband and a three year old that sleep during the day and a mother who is pregnant and likes to sleep in (that would be me), we just can't have any more of it.

I tried to get Stranger to buy some little vinyl bumper sticker things (I think that's the technical name) to put in the door frame but he suggested using sticky felt pads which I already had so I cut them up into little pieces and they are working great! Of course I can still hear every door opening and shutting and little feet running up and down the hall every morning but it doesn't make me grumpy like the slamming did.

I love my new quiet house! And I promise not to be so lazy after this baby is born. I will actually start getting up before my children again. In a year or so. I promise.

that is a great idea (I wonder if it would work for that one drawer I tend to slam, I mean shut forcefully)

When I was a kid, my parents used to tell us that if we slammed our doors, they would take them off the hinges. It only took one time of your door being taken off to nip that bad habit in the bud! Thankfully my kids' doors are unable to be slammed shut due to slight misalignments.

My kids roll their eyes in shock if I'm up before them--and my baby is almost 2! But seriously--WHY do they get up at 6:00?

I DID take the kids doors off the hinges! I was huge with my 4th and gave up asking nicely and then yelling. My little darlings watched with horror as I took a hammer and screwdriver and removed the pins. I left their bedroom doors off for two months. Best sleep I've ever had! Since then we have had very few door slammings, and when it starts I just have to QUIETLY say "would you like me to remove your doors again?" Worked like a charm!

Great idea. And I rarely am up before my kids. And I am not pregnant and my youngest is 2.5.

When I was a kid, if we slammed a door my parents would make us stand there and open and close the door NICELY 20 times.

Oh, we SO wanted to run off and play, but there we were opening and closing the door slowly so it wasn't "too loud."

I had a roommate my freshman year at BYU who Always slammed doors. When we asked her about it and asked her to please stop slamming all the doors in the apartment, she said, "I'm not trying to slam the doors. Doors just must be heavier in Idaho." What?
