What It's Like Being 38 Weeks Pregnant

- You're sleeping on the couch now because the bed is too hard and painful.
- Except that you sneak back in bed at 7:00 in the morning so you can hide from the kids when they get up.
- Because as painful as the bed is you still can't get out of it before 10:00 a.m.
- Except to get up to go to the bathroom 27 times.
- You stop going to the gym because you are lazy and you are starting to scare people.
- Your big stomach itches no matter how much lotion you put on it.
- Although your other babies have come a week late you dream that THIS baby will be different. It will be born two weeks early because it loves you and wants you to be happy.
- You hate anyone you know who has already had their baby.
- In the nicest way possible of course.
- You feel sorry for anyone you know who isn't as far along as you are.
- You want to tell your daughters not to ever let this happen to them.
- But you don't want to scar them for life so you tell your son instead.
- He promises he won't.
- You don't feel like doing anything except having a baby.
- Sitting around thinking about having a baby is driving you crazy.
- So you go outside and watch the chickens scratch around for three hours instead.
- While you're out there you discover that roosters have sex about 20 times an hour.
- You're happy you're not a hen.
- You're happy for your hens that there are 15 of them and only one rooster.
- You're even happier when your husband finally gets rid of the rooster two days later.
- Now you can spend hours watching the hens scratch in the dirt and peck at each other in peace.
- When you get tired of watching the chickens you drag yourself to the bathroom to take a bath with your three year old for two hours.
- Three year olds are fun to have baths with.
- They don't point and make fun of your body.
- They help you wash your hair.
- They are more than happy to get in and out of the tub multiple times to bring you things.
- They know how to keep secrets.
- Like about what happened to the rooster.
- Until their brother or sister asks them of course.
- Being 38 weeks pregnant is pretty miserable.
- But you are still counting your blessings.
- You aren't throwing up several times a day.
- You can complain to your friends so much that they start bringing you yummy dinners so you don't have to cook.
- You haven't had any other complications and the baby looks big (although not big enough) and healthy.
- You're not on bed rest so you can take your kids to the park so they can run around while you sit and do more of the nothing that you were getting done at home.
- In fact you can drive your kids to multiple parks all in one day.
- Then on your way home you can stop at one more park just for good measure.
- Now you're 38 weeks and 2 days pregnant.
- Didn't that go by fast?

Oh, the last few weeks go by soooo slow huh?! I'm sorry. But I'm also jealous cuz I'm only 11 wks and the time is going too slow for me lol.
i honestly believe i willed my son here earlier. all of my kids were born either ON or within a day of their due date... #4... 11 days EARLY, baby!
I will say a little prayer that your child decides to emerge sooner, rather than later.
HUGS! Hang in there! Is everything ready for baby? You could spend like 2 whole days working on that? Perhaps some good old fashioned nesting? Another 2 days.
Maybe you should try to exercise, that might put you in labor, who cares what others think. I had a middle eastern lady tell me to drink cinnamon tea and walk. She had had 7 kids and when she did that with each of them she would go into labor. You never know?
We had to get rid of our roosters too. The poor chickens were getting rather ragged if you know what I mean. :D
Oh man, that brings back memories ! The pregnant bit ... not the chickens. Although, I'd love to have chickens one day ... not through pregnancy ... Uh, losing my train of thought ! I feel for ya ! Those last days do go slow ! Can't wait to hear some good baby news !! :)
By the way ... I'm at a new address.

38 weeks was easy peasy compared to the almost 40 weeks I'm at. Not fun. I can't move. Thanks for the suggestion to complain more so I can have some meals brought over.
It has to be bad otherwise you'd never want the baby to come out- especially after knowing what's ahead.
Good luck.
Although your other babies have come a week late you dream that THIS baby will be different. It will be born two weeks early because it loves you and wants you to be happy.
Ya, been there, dreamed that. Plus I always HATED people who had their babies even 1 day early. Nothing anyone ever told me to do worked, even having sex 20 times. LOL! You can assign me to bring you dinner anytime. Just let me know when you want it and what you want to eat. Good luck!
I hope you have this one, early, too!
Well at least you still have your sense of humor though I imagine it might wane as time passes by, but we'll just believe that the baby will be here before you hit that spot.
I think we all wish that the baby will come early. I know all too well how you are feeling. I am glad that my countdown is over. I know these next few weeks are tourture. Hang in there! I can't wait to see the new bundle!
"and you are starting to scare people."
Seriously--I always feel like I stop traffic and hush conversations while people stop to stare the last week or so.
Good luck with these last crazy weeks!
Oh, I was laughing about the hens and roosters...that is too funny!
Hopefully the last few weeks will go by quickly for you! I know it is so miserable!
I totally hear you! Some kind soul said to me at church today: "haven't you had that baby yet?"
Nope. Thanks for the reminder. Love you too.
Did I mention I'm ditching church for the next two weeks??
I subbed to your blog recently, and I am cringing imagining the next 13 weeks. I am already miserable. You know, I was silly enough to look forward to this pregnancy. My first was miserable, but the 2nd was wonderful. I was only vaguely uncomfortable at any time, felt great, blah blah blah. Yeah, this all just sucks. Severe SPD, massive pain, already feel huge. Ugh.
Hope baby does decide to get here early. Last time shoving some organic parsley up my hoo-ha per my midwife's suggestion worked for me.
Thanks for feeling sorry for me. I hope these next weeks pass quickly.
As a professional organizer, I am proud to say my first child was born on her due date! Ha! And #2 was 1 day early and to this day he still worries about being late all the time (7 yrs old).
Oh, I remember those days. Thank you for reminding me how awful pregnancy is, lest I want another baby too much and consider it for more than a minute. Good luck to you, and your chickens.
Love it!!
Take care - soon it will be full on!!

Oh my! This is exactly how I felt when I was pregnant this last time! I wanted him to come early. I was convinced that he would be born Dec. 3rd. Such a nice day to be born. Then he wasn't. Then I thought that he could come on his due date of Dec. 10th or Dec. 13th because that would be cute to have a child born (in different months, of course) 10th, 11th, 12th or 13th. Then having the three girls that I worked with all due after me have their babies way before me. Cursing myself for not believing in induction just because I was "late" all the while doing everything I could to induce my own labor. Then finally having him born one week late and too close to Christmas, on Dec. 17th. Yeah, I am still sore about it. I have an idea about that feeling you are having. :) I thought that this post was funny! It's just too real! Hang in there! You are a super woman already!
