39 Weeks!
Tomorrow that is.
I went to see my midwife again. I know! Twice in one month! Of course she wanted to "check" me and I wouldn't allow it because I'm stubborn like that. The nurse and Stranger were disgusted with me but my midwife is used to my behavior. What good does it do? You can walk around dialated 4 cm for 4 weeks or be completely closed and have the baby the next day. I'm fine to wait and see what happens. I told her I would see her again when I was in labor.
I did let her do an ultrasound. The good news is that the baby is measuring 8 1/2 pounds. It grew a pound and a half in two weeks so we might get a 10 pounder after all if I go two more weeks. One more piece of good news. I tested negative for Group B Strep for the first time in all my pregnancies. I'm so excited! This will be the first time I won't have to be strapped to an IV the whole time I'm in labor. At least I hope that's what that means.
I'm starting to get the phone calls. You know, from people wondering what my problem is and why I haven't had this baby yet. Haven't I told everyone that I am not having this baby early? If you haven't heard from me by the 16th then you can start calling to see if I'm still alive. If you're calling before that then you had better be calling to see what we'd like for dinner. And besides, if you don't love me enough to read my blog then you probably don't need to know when the baby comes anyway, right? Hopefully they have high speed at the hospital so we can keep the rest of you updated. Don't you want a play by play?
Stranger was home for two whole hours today before he got called back to work. You know what that means? He took the kids to the gym so we (the kids and I, not Stranger and I) could get a break from each other. Because of my condition we are more and more often stuck in this house together. Things are getting so bad that I have actually been letting them watch movies. Yes, they are amazed too.
The other day Stranger had to take the van into the shop to get looked at and I made him take all the kids with him. Wasn't that so nice of me? He dropped the van off and they walked all over town going to lunch and doctor's appointments. I hear it was good exercise!
Speaking of vans. Don't you think a new van would make a great baby present? I do too.
What??? Blogger now has auto-posting? When did this happen and why didn't anyone tell me about it sooner????

I can't wait to hear about your new baby :) A new van would definitely be a good baby present lol.
I just found out about the auto-posting too! Pretty cool!
Hey Lara, my sister is having a scheduled induction on May 12th so you may end up having your babies at the same time.
I'm so excited.....for both of you!
Yes, YES to the play by play! I'm so excited for you to have this one. And a new van--perfect present for a new mom.
Oh yes, Hospital play by play would be a very organized thing to do.
You refused getting checked? You go girl! I thought I was weird for refusing an IV and meds. I admire you.
I am all for a play by play hospital birthing experience :) !!
And congrats on being Group B (-). I was that way with my first two, and I hope it stays that way.
Hopefully your new van will come soon.
I appreciated the part about people calling. I am going to write a similar post. A friend of mine has agreed to take calls and I'm going to tell them to call her! and not me. (unless they're calling to find out what we'd like for dinner! he he) I also changed my due date on my countdown on my blog to the 15th, instead of the 11th. I was 4 days overdue with both of my kids so far, so hopefully I'll have this one by then. And if people think my due date is later, maybe they won't start calling so soon.
I did that too, refused being checked. Guess what? She was born anyway. I guess that little ritual isn't as crucial as we are led to believe...
Well good for you. Over here in England they never do cervical checks until you are well and truly in labour and even then it's sparingly. There's just no good reason for it, generally.
Good luck with the birth!
I can relate to always going past my due date. You would think that with each baby I would deliver closer to my due date, but not so. I am 31 weeks pregnant with #6...that is according to MY calculated due date. I'm due June 25th, but expect a 4th of July baby. I'm already getting comments from people that they think I'll go early this time or they wonder if I'll really last until the beginning of July. How little they know. I never start dialating until I am in labor so I can relate to the not needing to be checked, but I tolerate it anyway. And congratulations on testing negative for Group B Strep because like you, I am always hooked up to an IV too. Let me know what it's like not to be!
Can't wait to hear the news...later rather than sooner. :-)
Hope everything goes well for you!!
I hadn't heard about the auto-posting. That will be nice!
For the auto-posting you have to sign in to draft.blogger.com for it to work. I've tried it out and it's very nice.
Your thoughts about getting "checked" are almost identical to mine. Good job! Best wishes on the last few days until your baby is born. :) (off to buy some organizing bags now....)
Having given birth to a 10 pounder, I have to tell you it's quite an experience!!
Oh, good luck! I can't wait to hear about the new little bundle of joy. And yes...a new van sounds like the perfect present!
I'm seriously thinking of telling people my due date is 5 weeks later than it really is so that they won't have time to bug me about not having the baby yet (I go overdue everytime). And I'm happy to hear that you can be negative for strepB after all this time. It gives me just a bit of hope that I can avoid it this time too.
Hope you get more days free from the kids. =)
This is so exciting- I can't wait to see the "little organizer" baby! We want pregnant pics- please post!
Good Luck!!! I am so excited for you. Can't wait to see pictures!
I haven't phoned, you'll notice. I'm sweet and considerate like that.
Can't wait though!
Not much longer!! I'm happy for you. I'm writing because I just baked my first sourdough loaves of bread today and they turned out great!! You inspired me!!
Talk to you later, Amber.
