Smart Habit Saturday

Smart Habit Saturday

I was listening to Dr. Laura a few days ago when a distraught caller was frustrated by the lack of control she had over her life. If she started a new diet she did great for two days and then she would go off of it. The same thing happened with exercise or getting up early, etc. She felt those things were proof that she could not control anything in her life.

Dr. Laura responded by saying that the woman did in fact have control over all of those things. She decided to start a new diet and two days later she decided to go off of it. How true that is!!! I need to remember that when I'm feeling like I am lacking self control. Every day I do exactly what I decide to do, good or bad!

Habits make those decisions easier but even without habits we get to choose each and every action we make.

June Habit: Meal Plans Again!
I am finally feeling up to some new habits but I know I need to revisit some old habits first. This month it will be meal plans again. It's been weeks since I have taken any responsibility for meals and I know my family is sick of it. It's actually making me sick too because of all the crap we've been eating. We were on such a healthy food binge for a while there and I want to get back to that.

In addition to meals I am trying to get the house back in some kind of order. We're doing a little bit every day. Would you believe me if I said I still haven't unpacked my suitcase that I took to the hospital when I had Sweetness two weeks ago? You know it! Maybe that will be my project for tomorrow. Unless I get distracted by a bag of chocolate chips and spend all morning making cookies instead.

Have a great week!

Lara-
Don't be to hard on yourself, you did just have a baby! I need to revisit some old habits too. I am still soda free though, which is the one I am most proud of...

What a great point by Dr. Laura. Sometimes it's the slaps in the face that are just the thing we need to get our butt in gear...

This kind of relates to the quote at the end of my post...

Chocolate has been scientifically proven to be distracting.

It took two weeks and my mom before I finally unpakced my hospital suitcase from when I went to have littlest man.

Meal planning is a good thing to start back with. I need to back to that as well but I also know I need to look for quick easy things, or things I can make a a big batch of and freeze for later. Plus it is summer so bring on the warmer weather, the bbq and the salads. I think I am going to make some pasta and veggie salad today. Yum!

I've never been a meal planner, but it's something that I'm sure would help me out. I'd love to hear about yours, if you decide to blog about it.

You might want to try a site like http://familyfun.go.com/recipes/meal-planner/index.html?CMP=NL_Wkdr where they do a whole month's worth of menus for you. I may not follow it, but I certainly use it for inspiration.

My family would really like me to start doing this again. Right now we average 2 good dinners, 1 quick pantry dinner, 2 really pathetic "dinners," and 2 take out food dinners a week. BUT, Cookie just gave me a coupon book for meals that she will prepare for the family so I can rest. Isn't she great. And I'm going to use one every single day.
