Venturing Off the Couch Every Now and Then

I love snuggling up with my laptop and my new blogging companion!

I've been trying to write more about teaching babies to sleep but it's proving to be too difficult for my postpartum brain today so I will have to work on it later.

We spent a couple hours organizing our unfinished basement this afternoon. And by "we" I mean that I sat on a chair and told everyone else what to do. Stranger put together some new shelves a couple months ago for all our valuable junk that we don't use so it needed to be put away on the shelves. I have plans to go through all of it and get rid of at least half of it but for now we can finally see the floor! We have a slide down there and the kids drug the tumbling mat down also. It will be a nice cool place for them to play this summer when it's too hot to go outside.

Organized Laundry RoomI also did little straightening in my laundry room this week. Just about every corner of my house has piles of clutter and it's finally time to get it organized. One pile a day is about all I can handle.

organized Laundry RoomDoesn't that look better? It's not a pretty laundry room but at least it's organized. For some reason pretty laundry rooms are not high on my priority list at the moment. The large container is for outgrown or unused clothes to go in and the small one is for socks that are waiting for their mates to come through the wash.

P.S. My sister gave me a great idea once upon a time, to use the old and mateless socks for camping and outdoor activities. Then when you come home you just throw the dirty things away. Love that!

Some of our socks have been waiting a loooong time for their mates. I believe it is time they just divorce and move on with their lives (and out of my laundry room).

Your blogging companion is very cute!

I love the using unmatched socks for camping idea. Why didn't I think of that?

I love your blog because I'm always thinking "Now, why didn't I think of that?" when reading it. I love the basket idea for outgrown, unneeded clothing. I always have a stack of these when folding but I always forget to remove it beofre the kids find it an put it away. And I'm thinking that hanging the baskets on the wall would keep the tops of my machines free. Yay! I can't wait to try this.

Such a pretty laundry room. I do have a box for missing socks but its not anywhere near the dryer atm. I think I'll move it there once the clutter is gone. :)

I have four kids, and I gave up matching socks long ago. I buy one kind of pair for each child. I buy a lot of them. So when they lose one, I don't even notice. I like the gold toe brand, so that I can tell them apart easily (3 strips are the largest, 2 med, 1 smalls) I buy only white so that I may bleach them. I do buy black pairs for the boys for church. It has made laundry SO much better. I love it. I don't even match those up. They just have a sock drawer with all of there sock and they grab 2 knowing they will match. I even do the same for me and my husband. This is one of my best laundry tips. Beside the pop up laundry hampers that compact down to fit in between the washer and the wall. I have 7 of them for sorting on laundry day. I got mine at target.

I have an outgrown basket on my dryer too. I need to add a DI basket too.

I use the same laundry detergent and I notice you have yours tipped back so the spout is up. I used to keep mine with the spout down so I could just squirt it into the little drawer--but then little munchkins had to press the button and make a little squirt on the floor every time they passed by, so now mine is tipped up too.

I try buying the same socks so we don't have to worry about matching but it seems that every time I buy more the style has changed so we still end up with unmatched socks! Where do you get yours so that they always stay the same?

I will now have to get the sock bin thing going at my house. There are always extra socks finding there way out of the dryer, or should I say one less sock.

We have an odd sock basket...and one of my biggest pet peeves is to find an odd sock in a sock drawer at our house..."That's what the odd sock basket if for, People!" LOL

Your laundry room looks so nice and clean now. I look forward to the day that I have a front loader and dryer--I want to put a counter over the top and a curtain in front to hide the machines since my laundry room and powder room share the same space.

Granted my children are 2 and 4, but I think I would keel over if I had a basket of unmatched socks. It drives me crazy when I fold laundry and have a sock that doesn't have a mate...I usually make my husband search it down for me immediately. Our socks are happier with their mates. LOL!

Is it sad to say when the sock bin gets to overflowing I pay my kids 10 cents a pair to match up socks? The younger ones really make a killing.

Your little blogging mate is just about the most adorable thing ever!

I would leave the seperated socks in the bottom of the laundry basket and it just gets confusing so I like ur idea and have the perfect box! And once they've divorced they go in the bag hanging on the Laund Rm door to clean up spills, furniture and/or toilet, then right into the trash!

I love the idea of having 2 containers on the washer/dryer as you do. I just may have to try that.

I would love to have an actual laundry room instead of having the machines in the main bathroom of the house - such a pain.
