Outsourcing
I've been learning about outsourcing in some of the business books I've been reading lately. Paying someone to do all the things in my business and life that I don't want to do? What's not to like about that? Now I just need to get Stranger on board.
Here's how things went down with our new snow mobile a couple months ago:
Him - "Momma, (yes, that's what he calls me) a guy at work is selling a snow mobile. Do you think we should get it?"
Me - "No. We don't need a snow mobile."
A month later Stranger notifies me that we have a "new" snow mobile outside.
Me - "I thought we decided we didn't need a snow mobile."
Him - "No, you decided we didn't need a snow mobile."
So we now have a snow mobile.
Here's how things went down with my new outsourcing project:
Me - "Daddy, (yes, that's what he makes me call him) Don't you think we should have someone come clean a couple hours a week so I have more time for other things?"
Him - "No. We don't need anyone to clean for us."
Two days later (today) I notify Stranger. "Oh by the way, someone is going to be here in 10 minutes to clean."
Him - "I thought we were going to talk about this first."
Me - "We are talking about it. In the mean time I thought we should have someone come to see how we like it."
Verdict? We (I) like it. (Imagine that.)
So we now have a cleaning lady.
Let's see ... what should I outsource next?

Laundry! Laundry! Laundry!
And then grocery shopping!
Just trying to be helpful :)
Most anything except your blog. I like the way you run it...
This outsourcing idea could really catch on! I may have to try it.
Dinner. But definitely not the baby holding.
That is what I've been reading, too. We are working on our own business and trying to incorporate this as well.
I, once upon a time, had a cleaning lady and loved her. When I quit my bookkeeping job, I gave her up. But now I think I want her back.
As much as I enjoy cooking, I want someone to cook for me. And also grocery shop.
LOL! Timing really is EVERYTHING!
Now I just have to wait for my husband to do something like that (again).
LOL!
I will outsource potty training any day!
Oh, I've always wanted to do that! Good for you!
Yes it is a good idea to outsource so you have time to work on your business and do the things to grow it. Not concentrate on things you dont want to do that someone else could do for you cheaper if you figure out what you are worth. Can you tell I am learning something from reading Harmonic Wealth , actually a lot.
Grocery shopping not sure if you have this in the States, I am from Canada, but we can order groceries online and have them delivered.
The thing I would like to source out is a cook I am not that at all !!
I agree Moms with big families and businesses should outsource some of the menial stuff so they can focus more on the things only a mother can do. My husband is gone every other weekend and on those Fridays I have someone come clean all the bathrooms for me and vacuum. It helps me enjoy spending the weekend with the kids.
Oooooo! Congratulations! I outsourced this year too: gardeneronce a week, cleaning people every other week and babysitter 2 days a week. I feel evil/guilty/thrilled but I also feel better. It's the only way things can work around here with the schedule Hazel keeps us on!
Enjoy it and *don't* waste it feeling guilty!
Why didn't you think of this 9 months ago? Good for you!
Good for you! I read the 4 Hour Work Week and didn't come to the same conclusions as you.. maybe I should re-read it. :)
Oh I love that idea I have thought about a cleaning lady. But have thought it was only for "RICH" people ;) My mom recently told me that if she were homeschooling 4 kids she would not think twice about having someone come in at least once a month to do at least the deap cleaning. So I had one less thing I had to worry about. I worry about it but it never gets done;)
So how does one go about finding a good cleaning lady?
