Organize Your Suitcase

I discovered a fun new organizing idea when my baby and I were staying with my friend for two weeks. I found it frustrating to rummage through my suitcase looking for the baby’s tiny clothes. I finally organized her clothes into big ziplock baggies. Each bag included 1 diaper, a shirt, pants, socks and jacket for the day. It was so great to pull her out of the tub, grab a bag and have everything I needed to get her dressed. I also organized my workout clothes the same way so I could grab my clothes and head to the gym.

The bags work so well with baby clothes that I think I’ll keep doing it from now on and I’ll definitely do this with everyone’s clothes whenever we’re away from home

Will We Actually Be Moving In?

The end is in sight! We may actually be moving into our house soon. The painters finished today. The plumbers and electricians will be installing their stuff next week. We could possibly be moving in by the end of next week. If not then I don’t know where we’ll go because Lois is coming back again so we have to be out of here.

There will be a lot of work to do after we move in. The fireplace and the sunroom floor need to be bricked and the sunroom walls have to be stained. I have to paint the kitchen and bathroom cabinets and stain all the doors. All the closets need to be built and I’ll be painting some of the rooms too because I decided to have the painters paint everything off-white to save money and to give me time to decide what colors I want. I have it all figured out now but I’m sure I’ll change my mind once we’re living there with all our furniture. It was just going to cost too much to have them 3-tone the whole house like I wanted. That means different colors for the ceiling, walls and trim.

Our Ruined Wood Floor

We’re homeless again! Our house isn’t finished and the people we were house sitting for came home 11 days ago. We’ve been staying with friends and family ever since. It doesn’t look like our house will be finished any time soon.

We were getting the floor finished last week when we discovered, after staining it, that there were long deep marks all over it where the insulators had cut their insulation. On our wood floor! I was so devastated. I didn’t know what we were going to do. John, our contractor, and Chris and I spent two days sanding the floor on our hands and knees trying to get the marks out.

Chris and I were going to spend all night on Friday finishing it when I finally gave up. We had to use such heavy grit sand paper to get the marks out that it left swirl marks all over the floor. I had had it. We were never going to make it look right! I told Chris that we were done the insulation company was going to pay to fix this. He thought that was the best idea he had heard all week. We stopped everything, got up and went home to shower off the three inches of sawdust that covered us.

I got a hold of John the next morning. I didn’t understand why we had tried to fix it in the first place. I guess the owner of the insulation company had been out of town all week and we really did think we could fix it ourselves. They both went to the house Monday morning and he apologized and said he would make everything right. He said that John had told him not to cut on the floor and he felt terrible about what his guys had done.

I am so relieved that everything is going to work out but it does put us back a few more weeks on completing the house. The floor will never be the same because it will be sanded smooth instead of having that rough rustic look but I have to move on and just be grateful that it’s fixed.
